You need to check for a few things before you compromise on the safety of your files. One, a disk clean up should be the first thing before attempting anything.
Check the Total amount of disk space you will gain after selecting most of the options in the Files to delete box above, keeping in mind that files from the recycle bin will be erased if you choose to delete them
The second option will be scanned for viruses from another computer. Dismount your hard disk from your computer and connect it externally to another machine that has an anti-virus. Scan your drive and also check the following.
That the Temp folder in C:WindowsTemp is empty (this is a folder used by many applications including installer to temporarily save files). You could do a search of the Temp folder to ascertain that it doesn’t appear only once in your system – Windows 7 for instance has another Temp folder in C:UsersFolderLocalAppDataTemp.
The last option is to make sure that, after a successful ant virus scan, your computer is free from viruses. Some viruses will duplicate files and hide these folders that have enormous spaces in different places. Unhiding these files and folders could lead you to the exact cause of your issues. Hope this helps you.Â
