The Motorola Company has announced 2 new smartphones for the mid-late 2015 segment. These smartphones are heavy on power while the price point still turns out to be average.
The 2 new devices are named such that they look like an improvement to the already existing moto x2, and Motorola has decided to call them the MOTO X PLAY and the MOTO X STYLE.
While the moto x style still remains unavailable in the Indian market with no news of when it is expected to be announced for this country, the MOTO X PLAY was announced sometime around last month. AT the first glance, looking at the specifications of the moto x play being offered at that price range it looks like a MUST BUY.
We are here to review the phone and have a look at its internal features, weather is it really bang for the buck?
SCREEN
Motorola still caters to the vast audience who want a big phone. Thus, making this phone a 5.5” phablet. This massive screen has a quality of 1080p with a density of 401ppi. While the density and quality of the screen are good it would have been even better with a qHD display. Nonetheless, the HD screen makes the text look crisp and the icons very vibrant. The display is very bright, making it easy to read outdoors on a sunny day.
CAMERA
The moto x play features a 21mp rear camera which does its job quite well. In outdoor images the camera really makes the subject look excellent while the indoor photography or low light images don’t seem to be perfect. The camera comes along with the dual LED flash which help keep the subject looking natural while taking low light images.
PERFORMANCE AND MEMORY
The moto x play is powered by a snapdragon 615 octa-core chipset clocked at 1.7GHZ. This along with the 2GB ram, the adreno 405 GPU and the stock android running on top of it means that the phone is really smooth and can get you through intensive multitasking work with ease. Gaming is not a problem with this device as the 2GB RAM and the adreno 405 GPU handle it quite well. Moving onto the storage options of the moto X play, there are 2 variants to select from, 16gb and 32gb. It doesn’t matter which memory capacity you choose for the moto X play, the option of a micro SD card is an advantage.
BATTERY
The most impressive thing about this device is that battery it offers. A 3630mah battery means that the moto x play can be up and running all day long even if you are a very heavy user or a gaming freak. Not only this, Motorola has packed a fast charger in the phone which makes charging upto 80% in less than half of an hour.
SOFTWARE
The Moto X Play comes with stock android experience without any bloatware which makes your phone slow in the future. This means that weather the phone is new or a year old, if there is sufficient internal memory, the phone will still behave like it was just unboxed minutes ago.
Overall it is a good phone with impressive figures but the Chinese and Indian manufacturers like Xiaomi, Meizu, Yureka and Huawei give the same options at a considerably cheaper price.
