Hi All,
I recently had a very irritating issue. This makes me think that my computer is attacked by virus.
I am not really sure of it though. Hope someone can help me.
Whenever I double click a drive in my computer, CMD opens. Yeah, this is quite unusual.
I don’t even know which of the changes I made resulted in this.
I installed Yahoo! Messenger, and Google chrome. In addition, I scanned my whole system.
So far, those are the only recent changes I made.
I am using an HP computer running on Windows XP, Service Pack 2.
Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Dear Pamela
Double clicking on drive and opening of CMD is clearly shows that your computer is infected with virus. Your thinking regarding virus attack is right.
Just uninstall your yahoo messenger and Google chrome and restart your system. Then check, is your problem resolved or not.
if problem exists, then uninstall your antivirus and download a fresh antivirus software. Update virus definition and run complete through scan of your system. remember, delete all infected files not need to quarantine that infected files.

Kate

Hi pamela,
First do a system scan in SAFE MODE, also remove your ethernet cable so that there are no unwanted packets will be sent to your computer. Also doing a Registry Cleanup would be a nice thing to do. I believe there's a certain file that is corrupted or lost, For the mean time try right clicking it and select explore maybe you can be able to open it.
I hope this is useful.
Thank you

You are indeed infected by a virus and now an autorun.inf always run every time you open your drive in my computer, to fix this, simply open command prompt and type the following.
attrib -r -s -h autorun.inf then press enter
del autorun.inf then press enter.
regsvr32 /i shell32.dll then press enter, just click OK if asked.
for other drive type first d: in command prompt. Just change the drive letter if drive E then type e: then press enter
attrib -r -s -h autorun.inf then press enter
del autorun.inf then press enter.
regsvr32 /i shell32.dll then press enter,
Just click OK if asked.

You will need to modify the registry. So first of all, ensure that you back up your registry before altering some keys into it. If you are not an advanced user, do not continue.
1. Click Start and then Run. Type regedit.
2. Navigate to the following: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTDirectoryshell.
3. Click on Shell to remove all the contents on the right pane. Double-click Default and then change its value to None.
You may also try to scan your computer for possible viruses, spyware or malware and then eliminate it.
