Hello,
I'm having discomfort due to the mistake that is going to bother my official work poorly for two days.
On my office computer, when I try to save the file, I get the following error.
Microsoft Word
A file error has occurred.
Try one or more of the following:
-
Check the disk drive to make sure the disk is properly inserted.
-
Check the disk or the disk drive to make sure there is not a hardware problem.
-
Check the network connection.
I'm using windows 2000 Professional and computer Pentium III 850 MHz with 128 MB of RAM.
Office is the 2000 version of Microsoft and all other programs are working well. The word is giving this error. Please help me to solve this problem because I don't have any knowledge about Windows or troubleshooting. I only know how to use computers.

MS Word File Save Error
Hello AshokS,
The issue can be caused due to multiple reasons. Please check the following reasons and the information provided to resolve the issue.
Reason 1:
If you are trying to save the file on a removable disk like CD or floppy disk, please ensure whether the disk is inserted in the drive and also inserted properly. If it is a floppy, make sure that the disk is not write protected. In case of compact disk, check whether it a writable CD. Also, note that for writing a CD you need to have a CD writer.
Reason 2:
If you are still experiencing the issue, try saving the file in some other location on the computer.
Reason 3:
You may experience the same issue if you are trying to save the file in some network that is not present or deleted.
Reason 4:
If you are trying to save the file as a web page, you need have a web browser already installed on the computer. Retry saving the file after installing a web browser on the computer to resolve the issue. Also, the issue may be resolved by restarting the computer in Safe Mode. Please follow the steps provided below:

Restart your computer, and press "F8" when the Boot menu appears.

In the “Windows Advanced Options”, select the option and press ENTER on the keyboard.

When the Boot menu appears with red "Safe Mode" displayed, select the installation and press ENTER.
Another option is to try open Word using the Run command:

Click “Start”, and choose “Run”.

Click “Browse” and locate the Office folder àWinword.exe file and click Open.

Or type "C:Program FilesMicrosoft OfficeOfficeWinword.exe" (without quotes) in the Run command windows.
Office 2000 has a built-in function that will help in troubleshooting and providing alerts.
To activate the functionality, you need to download the Microsoft Office 2000 Customizable Alerts file from the following web link:

If Office 2000 Customizable Alerts is installed, it will provide alerts and information regarding the error. The Alert will include a “Web Info” button. Clicking the button, you will be carried over to the Microsoft Support website that provides information regarding the error and troubleshooting steps.
Follow the steps to download Office 2000 Customizable Alerts file:

Visit the above provided web link and click the “Download” button.

Click “Save” to save the Extalert.exe file on the computer Hard Disk.

Double-click the exe file to start the set-up program and follow the installation instructions.
To check whether the function is working properly, try the steps below:

Open Word and create a new document by clicking File a New.

Then click “Save” to save the file.

Click “Tools” in the menu bar, and click “General Options”.

In the “Password to open box”, type a password, and click “OK”.

Confirm the password and click “OK”.

Enter a file name, and click “Save”.

Close the file and re-open it.

You will be prompted to enter the password. Click “OK” without entering the password.

You will receive an alert with the “Web Info” button.

You need to click the "File Menu" on the word document that you want to save then select "Save As."

Type the right network path of the server where you like to save the file in the "File Name"box next press "Enter". For example,"\server_nameshare."Replace "server name" with its network name in which place you want to save your word file.

Type the name you want for the "Word document"to save in the "File Name" box and press "Enter."

Then click the"Save as Type"in the drop-down box,click "Word document" and press "Enter."
