After installing new windows XP on my computer, I get my sound system disabled. It shows motherboard disc setting is okay but does not working. I can not get any sound. How can I fix it?
Hi, you should ensure that your wires are jacked in properly and securely as sometimes it may just be loos.

Next you should then go to start, device manager, sounds, ensure that the right  speakers are selected, as well as, ensure that you run a test option to configure your speakers, choose your speakers in the drop down menu, click on properties and update your driver for your speakers, and please check your volume status as sometimes it may just be muted.
Click Start and go to your Control Panel. Click the Hardware and Sounds, and then click the Sounds. Set Playback (Media System Sounds), Recording (Media System Sounds), Sounds (System Sounds), and Communication (System Sound) to Default, then restart your computer. It’ll be alright. If the problem still persists, scan your computer with antivirus.   Â

That’s normal actually after installing a fresh copy of Microsoft Windows XP and any other Microsoft Windows operating system. This is because when you install an operating system, the actual process doesn’t include the installation of the sound card. The installation of the driver for your sound card has to be performed separately once the operating system has been installed.
Basic PCI sound card
Another reason for this is that Microsoft Windows itself doesn’t include a generic sound card driver that can work on most sound cards. Unlike the sound card, Microsoft Windows includes a basic video driver that can work on built-in video card on the motherboard. The reason why a sound driver is not included while a video driver is included is that sound on the computer is optional.
The computer itself can work without a sound and it can be added later while with the video driver, you cannot install the operating system if you cannot see anything on the screen that’s why a basic or generic video driver is included as part of the operating system to provide basic display during setup.
To add sound to your computer, install the driver for your sound card after installing the operating system.
