NFC is something which is not very attractive, and not many manufacturers have integrated NFC into their products, but it is a great form of data transfer between NFC-enabled digital devices. NFC uses electromagnetic radio fields much similar to what Bluetooth and Wi-Fi use. It’s just that there are proximity issues (NFC only works in the range of 4-7 cms) which make this technology less feasible. Near Field Communication (NFC), a technology very well-rehearsed in the past was not booming up to its ego-centric functionality. It is an excellent communication medium which handles the transfer of content from one device to another without much pain of switching on/off anything and no buttons are to be pressed for it to operate.
Working of NFC is very simple. For an example, if we have two NFC-enabled devices let’s say two mobile phones, we just have to keep the two mobiles back-to-back (wherever the sensors are), and the data transfer takes place!
Over the last two years, NFC has seen some significant outcomes – Apple Pay, Google’s Tap & Pay, Samsung Pay, etc. All these tend to make our life more comfortable by making payments ‘Hassel-Free’. There are programmable NFC tags available to modify the tasks according to our needs, Bus/Metro Rapid Trasport Systems use NFC coins/cards, and various identity card now has NFC built in for different purposes too.
Just recently at the Google I/O 2016, Ellie demonstrated ‘the Instant App functionality’, this time when at a parking meter — she taps the NFC tag on a parking meter that she doesn’t have the application. It fetches the necessary components, prompts her for payment, and she’s done.
Many Advantages of using NFC:
1) High convenience to the user, because the data exchange reflects by bringing two mobiles together.
2) It reduces the cost of any additional electric instrument.
3) Secure communication.
4) No special software.
5) No manual configuration and settings.
6) No search and pair procedure.
One interesting thing you as a user can do is if you have an NFC-enabled smartphone, one can buy NFC tags and program it according to your needs such as at home; you can specify to connect to Wi-Fi, turn off mobile data, play music, etc. NFC, still quite on a beta stage is expected to grow with its need.
Conclusion:
Mobile Phones are the most appropriate target for this cool technology but again, we have NFC cards which are used everywhere in our daily lives. Let us hope that this impressive technology brings in a revolution in the field of computers.
