What is the function of firewall?

I have always heard about firewall since I started using computer but till today I am not clear about what it really does.

If you can explain about the firewall in windows operating system, I would be delightful.Thanks.

What is the function of firewall?

Hey Edward Morley!o come in your home.

To know about firewall, let us first elaborate the word "FIREWALL". It is a wall of fire which prevents other users to come in your home and keeps you safe in the home.

Basically network gateway server has some related programs which are called firewall. These programs prevent other users from the private network.

Firewall completely check whether to send the packet data or not, to the destination. When we install any antivirus, it also has a firewall. When we open a certain site which has some malicious virus, the Firewall suddenly block that site to open and prevent you from any loss of data.

Hi if you are using a personal computer in your home you must do the first step to prevent your pc is to turn on firewall. Firewall is a software program which aid to screen out the intruders or unauthorized access and remote access specially viruses and worm and also prevent unwanted files which download or upload over the internet. Overall function of the firewall is preventing your PC. That’s all. I think that I gave you the clear answer which you can understand. Thank you.

What is the function of firewall?

In computer, a firewall is firmware or software that implements a set of rules about what data packets will be permitted to enter or leave a network. Firewalls are integrated into a wide range of networked devices to filter or strain traffic and decrease the risk that malicious packets traveling over the public internet can impact or force the security of a private network.

Firewalls can also be purchased as standalone applications. The Microsoft Windows operating system has a built-in firewall. But unlike commercial firewall applications that can be purchased, the Windows Firewall provides only basic firewall protection. There are two main types of firewalls: host-based and network-based. A host-based firewall is the type you install on individual servers that tracks incoming and outgoing signals.

A network-based firewall is the type that can be found built-in to a cloud’s infrastructure or can also be a virtual firewall service. Though there are only two main types, you can find many different types in different places controlling different activities.
