Security Alert Error: Security Certificate has expired

Hi experts,

Every time, I browse the Internet, almost all of the pages I am visiting, whether I am using Firefox, Internet Explorer or Google Chrome, an alert prompted me always. What should I do to fix this issue?

I captured a screen shot of the error message for your reference. Please help.

Information you exchange with this site cannot be viewed or changed by others. However, there is a problem with the site's security certificate.

The security certificate is from a trusted certifying authority.

The security certificate has expired or is not yet valid.

The security certificate has a valid name matching the name of the page you are trying to view.

Security Alert Error: Security Certificate has expired

Take note of the message alert, the alert says “Information you exchange with this site cannot be viewed or changed by others. However, there is a problem with the site’s security certificate. ” and gave you an information that, “The security certificate is from a trusted certifying authority” indicated by a green check, which shows there's no problem on that category, as well as in the statement, “The security certificate has a valid name matching the name of the page you are trying to view. ” You may find a warning on this statement, “The security certificate has expired or is not yet valid. ” This means your security certificate is not valid anymore.

The first time you visited the site, your browser downloaded a certificate from the site and on the second or the next visit it will check, if the certificate matches the current certificate. If it does not match, the browser will prompt you for that message and ask you to ignore the certificate.

Don’t worry about this. Your problem is just with the time settings. Your date might be advanced, for more than 1 year or less than a year. The page certificate you have might be out-dated. You must set your exact time and date, as well as, your time zone.

To change your time, just double click the clock in your task tray, change the date and time and click OK.

Security Alert Error: Security Certificate has expired

Thank you so much Mr. Gurudev.

I was also facing the same problem since after i changed my CMOS battery. I forgot to correct my time and date settings after inserting a new CMOS battery. Then ,Whenever i starts to browse through the internet i receive same security alert.

I searched all over the internet for the certificate problem then i finally came to this website and identified that the problem was within my system. Thank you so much for the informational post on Certificate error.

Security Alert Error: Security Certificate has expired

That error is pretty common when you are browsing the internet with Microsoft Internet Explorer but I’m not sure if you will see that on other browsers like Mozilla Firefox, Opera, and Google Chrome. That problem is with the website’s certificate which you have no control over. You will normally see that when you visit a secure website and the security certificate has expired and is no longer valid.

Secure websites are those websites that use the “https” prefix. These types of websites install and use a properly configured SSL certificate. If the security certificate is not properly configured or incorrectly installed, users will encounter a somewhat similar error upon visiting the website. This error normally doesn’t affect the browsing because you will be prompted if you want to proceed or not.

Just a reminder: if you browse a website with this kind of error, don’t make a mistake of exchanging or entering personal information like bank account details. Try also using other browsers to visit the website.
