Why is every time power fails some of the systems goes off

Hi,

My question is why is it that every time power fails some of the systems goes off too? I use a multiple stand-alone systems, which are all connected to a common UPS. I would like to know what the issue is, and how do I rectify it?

When power failure occurs and your systems are connected to a common power source, they will all go off. Even if you connect them to different power sources, they will still go off. You can't control this and it is inevitable. All systems need power to run. As long as there is current present in your power sources, then your systems won’t go off.

You should try checking your power controls if there are problems with them. Possible causes for power failure is that your fuses won’t work or a wire not connected properly.

Well it’s a common problem that happen with UPS which are online. So first of all you need to be sure that it’s an online UPS. Online UPS do not create such problems. After that power strip is another issue. You can change your power strip. The best way is connect your CPU direct to your UPS output. And the final issue is CPU power unit. If all the first two fail you may need to change your CPU power unit.

If you have multiple computers that are connected to the same UPS or uninterruptible power supply, try reducing the number of units or workstations connected to the UPS. This would mean buying a new UPS for the units that you will be removing from the existing uninterruptible power supply.

When a power failure happens and several of the workstations also go off though they are connected to a UPS, this could mean that the UPS cannot support all the workstations currently connected. Also, a UPS can only last a couple of hours after the power goes off because the power that’s being fed is from the battery.

Normally, the ideal way of using a UPS is one UPS for every computer unit. This allows you to maximize the power that can be provided by the power supply to the workstation or computer. If there are too many machines connected to one UPS unit, the power will deplete at a much faster rate.
