To connect a webcam to your desktop computer, follow the steps given below.
1. Lay out your webcam material.
2. Find out the USB connection. Most webcam will have a USB connection and a software disk for their drivers.
3. There will be an actual physical camera. This will need to put somewhere, a best suitable place from where you can see it.
Now your webcam is ready for work.

Follow these steps to connect a webcam to your desktop computer.
Method 1:
1. Connect the webcam to your computer. Numerous webcams connect to the computer through a USB port. When you purchase a webcam, it comes with a USB cable. Plug the USB cable of web cam into the USB port on your computer. In case of a desktop computer, the USB port will be located in the back and/or front of the system unit.
2. Wait, till the computer detects the webcam. If you have Windows Vista or higher edition of Windows installed on your computer, your computer will automatically detect that a new piece of hardware was connected to your USB port. A message will show in the bottom right corner of your screen that reads, “Your devices are ready to use”.
Method 2:
Often there comes an installation disc with the webcam. In this case if your computer does not install the webcam automatically, use the installation disc. Just insert the disc that came with your webcam and follow the directions provided to download the software.

Let me help you with your problem. First of all, you should know that there are two types of webcam; the one with the disk driver and the plug-in-play. If you have the first type which is the webcam with the disk driver, here are the three easy steps to follow:
1. Plug the webcam into your PC's USB port.
2. Insert the driver disk into your PC's disk drive. Wait for the setup wizard once it auto-loads. If the Set up Wizard doesn't appear right away, you can check to your "My Computer" and find the corresponding CD/DVD drive letter.
3. Select "Install" option and just follow the instructions. When you installed the driver, remove the disk and restart your PC. Now, you should be able to use your webcam. Smile!
However, if you have the plug-in-play webcam, it is much easier for you. From the word itself, just plug the webcam on the available USB port, when your computer detected the new device, you must be able to use your webcam now. Hope this helps.

1. Most webcam sets will come with an installation CD and USB connection that may or may not be attached to the actual camera itself.
2. If you have an installation disc, insert it into the computer and follow the installation steps. If the installation steps do not pop up automatically, you will need to go to the 'My computer' section and click on the CD drive.
3. If you do not have an installation CD, simply plug the camera in and follow the pop up steps. It will guide you through the installation process.
4. After you have installed the software, plug in the webcam into a USB drive.
5. When you want to use the webcam in the future, simply open the software which will probably be on your desktop, or can be found by clicking on the start menu or just browse for it.

Most of USB webcam do not need any software just plug it in and it will work. To use it, just open “My Computer” and then you will find the webcam in “Scanners and Cameras" section. To use a webcam to record a video, just open “movie maker software “from start menu.
