To resolve a black screen issue:

  1. Turn off the computer
  2. Unplug all external devices (flash drive, printer, external hard drive, speakers, camera, other usb devices, scanner)
  3. Make sure there is no disc in the CD or DVD drive
  4. Leave the basic peripherals attached to the system (monitor, mouse, keyboard, and power supply)
  5. Turn on the computer on safe mode
  6. If the black screen is gone, try to run a virus scan and remove all possible threats on your system
  7. Turn off the computer
  8. Replug all the devices you had
  9. Make sure you still don’t have any flash drive, external HDD, or CD in the disc drive
  10. Turn on your computer normally

If you encountered this problem while Windows is running, check if the LED power indicator of the monitor is still activated. If the LED is still turned on, disconnect the monitor cable from the video port at the back of the CPU. After this your monitor should display something about a disconnected cable and then will disappear again after a couple of seconds.

If this happens, there’s no problem with the monitor and it is the video card that needs to be checked. But if nothing showed up on the monitor after disconnecting the cable, press the power button of the monitor to turn it off and then press it again to turn it back on.

You should see an image on the screen. If not or there’s no image, the monitor needs to be checked or replace it. If there’s no problem with the monitor, the problem is probably in the video card. Press the power button of the CPU once to shut it down and then open the CPU case.

Transfer the video card to another slot and then start the computer. If nothing appeared on the monitor, try a different video card if you have a spare or purchase a new one.
