Hi,
This morning I noticed this error message showing on my security software “Win32/FakeIE”. I am using a CA internet security suite plus V7 on my computer. It also says false positive.
I just got this software installed few weeks ago and I just don’t know what to do with it.
I’m quite scared to touch it because I might not be doing the right thing here. Help me please ASAP!

Getting Win32/FakeIE error message on my computer
Hi! Annette,
You are getting the false positive message from computer associates "Internet Security Suite" means you are getting an infection alert for a legitimate data or program in your computer.
There is nothing wrong with your computer, what could have happened here was that the virus update was pushed at the same time your Malware scan is doing its updates. This process could detect activity of a legit file as a Malware. Your computer was probably running its usual product update alongside with the Malware update running. What you need to do is to disable heuristic scanning.
-
Open "Security Center" using the start menu or by right clicking the icon on the bottom right of your screen.
-
Click Update Settings under "My Computer panel". The settings tab will then be highlighted.
-
Click "Threat Settings" and scroll down.
-
Uncheck the box that says heuristic scanning.
-
Click Apply to save the changes.
After this process you should not be getting false positive messages when you are doing signature updates. Please contact CA technical support team if your are still getting the same error message after performing above steps.
I hope this solution works for you.

Getting Win32/FakeIE error message on my computer
Hi! Annette,
When Malware is updated, the process of virus detection begins and the legitimate files are often detected as Malware. Heuristic scan shall be disabled so the false positive pop up do not appear again.
To turn off the Heuristic scan, you can try the following steps.
-
Open CA Security Center. Click Start and select All Programs > CA > CA Internet Security Suite > CA Security Center. Alternatively click right CA icon and choose the Home.
-
The window of the CA Security Center will be opened.
-
Choose Update Settings on My Computer. Choose the Settings tab.
-
Choose tab Threat Settings and scroll down.
-
Unclick the box for Use Advanced Heuristic Scanning.
-
Then choose Apply so that the change takes effect.
-
The false positive status is fixed when you update signature next time. Also, please make sure the CASC is the latest one. Right click CA icon and choose Update Product.
