Howdy everybody,

I have attached an image below having a error message regarding the internet explorer so if you have faced this error before and know how to rectify it 100% then feel free to reply and guide me about this error.

The procedure entry point CoInternetSetFeatureEnabled could not be located in the dynamic link library urlmon.dll.

These error wordings are a bit confusing as in the top area it says Entry Point Not Found while in the body it says that some CoInternetSetFeatureEnabled cannot be located.

I think the error is caused by two files conflict, but I don’t know which files so if you know that what causes this error to appear and stop Internet Explorer working then reply to this post.

Thanks.

You actually didn’t mention if you got any recent Security Updates in your Operating System. That error usually occurs when you’re using Windows XP and got Security Updates.   It happens when Windows XP SP2 installation failed and your system do the automatic rollback and returns to pre-Windows XP SP2 installation state. In case the automatic rollback attempt didn’t occur or was interrupted, when your restart the computer, it would prompt you to go to Add/Remove Programs to manually remove the remnants from the previous failed installation.

Make sure to follow the prompt and remove the remnants to avoid having your computer stay in its pre-Windows XP SP2 state.  After removing the remnants from previous Security Updates, here’s what you can do to recover you computer:

Open Add/Remove Programs and look for Windows XP Hotfix – KB834707 and click Remove. Click Finish and your computer will restart. After restarting your computer may look up and working but we need to do another step to fully recover your system.

Open Add/Remove Programs again and look for Windows XP Service Pack 2 and Remove it as well. Finish and restart. Then go to Windows Update website and reinstall Windows XP SP2. You can also install other important Updates.

Hope this helps.

If you receive that error with Microsoft Internet Explorer, first, try using the System File Checker utility. This is a built-in tool in Microsoft Windows that scans all protected system files for incorrect versions and replaces them with correct ones. To try this, click Start then in the search box type without quotes “cmd”.

In the results, right-click “cmd.exe” and select “Run as administrator” to launch an elevated command prompt. In the command prompt window, type without quotes “sfc /scannow” then hit Enter. Insert your Windows setup CD or DVD on your optical drive when you are prompted then continue. Wait until the process completes. When it is finished, close the command prompt and restart the computer.

After booting, start Microsoft Internet Explorer then see if the error comes back. Another way is to disable and re-enable Microsoft Internet Explorer in Microsoft Windows. To do this, click “Start”, “Control Panel” then set the view to “Small icons” on the upper right corner of the screen. Next, click “Programs and Features” then click “Turn Windows features on or off” on the left pane.

In “Windows Features” dialog, uncheck “Internet Explorer 8” or the version of your Microsoft Internet Explorer. Select “Yes” when you are prompted and click “OK”. Follow the instructions.

Deactivate Microsoft Internet Explorer
Deactivate Microsoft Internet Explorer

To re-enable Microsoft Internet Explorer, repeat the same steps then in “Windows Features” dialog, check “Internet Explorer” then click “OK”. See if this works.
