Hi there,
I have Dell Latitude E6400 which was running on Ubuntu 13.04, recently I have updated to Ubuntu 13.10 and it won't shut down completely, it gets stuck on shutting down screen and am forced to manually switch it off, what could be causing this? How do I correct it?

Hi !
During the update your internet connection might fail for a few seconds or the update has not been completed properly skipping to copy some files.
You run again an Update for Ubuntu Softwares if are any available ones. If this is not possible to avoid that your laptop broke down think to reinstall a clean version of Ubuntu 13.04 + Xubuntu 13.10.

You could try shutting down your computer using 'sudo shutdown -h now' command using terminal window.
I'd recommend you to create a new ID and set a password, if the problem still remains after following above mentioned steps. You could also try updating Ubuntu 13.10 and see if the problem might be fixed in that way.
Good Luck Though…
