Hello Meira Flores,

Firstly, I am suggesting you to consider DAV and WebDAV as a single thing. Actually DAV is the abbreviated form of WebDAV. Now you should be acquainted with the term DAV. I am saying it DAV because it is easy to say. DAV i.e Distributed Authoring and Versioning is an expanded concept of HTTP or Hyper Text Transfer Protocol. DAV facilitates users to edit and manage data that is stored on the World Wide Web. Actually DAV makes the web readable and writable medium where users can edit and manage any data. So we can say that, DAV gives all users a framework by which users can create, change or move the necessary data over the web. I think you will be able to understand the matter.

Thanks

WebDAV is the short term for Web Distributed Authoring and Versioning. It is an extension of HTTP or the HyperText Transfer Protocol that assists collaboration among users in managing and editing of documents and files saved on World Wide Web servers. This protocol makes web a readable and writable avenue.

It gives a structure for users to create, move, and change documents on a server which is normally a web share or a web server. The work on WebDAV was ended in March 2007 when IESG or the Internet Engineering Steering Group agreed to an incremental update to RFC 2518.

Other extensions that were left hanging during those times like the BIND method have been completed by their particular authors, which I think were done outside of the official working group. As of the recent year, 2013, numerous modern operating systems offer integrated client-side support for WebDAV. For DAV or Distributed Authoring and Versioning, it has 2 main benefits.

The first benefit is its being an open standard that will make it available on all platforms. Second is, it is being integrated into HTTP. This means you will not require an application running over HTTP or setup a parallel system by means of FTP or SMB.
