I need an expert opinion about this. Kindly suggest your best advice. What's the best option for SAN? What are the best storage preferred by small scale companies?
What are the best storage preferred by small scale companies
This is no easy decision. But I have an article written on this which can help. I have installed and used most of these and each are best in their own areas. Here is the article –

They work with warranty and support, as well when analyzing these.

What are the best storage preferred by small scale companies
Ramesh,
Â
It is a delicate subject, and needs a thorough study of the requirement. To simplify, you should first assess what it is that you want to use the SAN for? Let me explain, suppose you have a business requirement or system with a 250 GB data store. Then of course you do not need the 10 TeraBit space storage capacity.
Â
Now, looking at what is the best & cheapest 10 TB Storage Capacity, comparing it to best storage capacity, then question about the 10 TB as an option. Look around, taking in consideration some other very distinctive factors like the physical dimension of the device.
Â
Also note that a device with SSD storage for high volume constant write will not be the best option, as to a SAN that contains 15K RPM SCSI or ISCSI.
Â
Then you should check the power supply / redundant power supply, as any complication in these will take out not only SAN but the device itself. Furthermore, depending on your O/S, what type of software can be used for replication, which should also be a major factor in deciding. For software, you can search :
Â
Â
While going through these sites, you may better understand the different approaches, and design to implement your SAN architect. However, always look for:
Â
1. What is your actual requirement in terms of capacity?
Â
2. Does the device (s) adequately cover the power supply issues etc?
Â
3. Then consider the size of the devices?
Â
4. Then consider the actual software to be used?
Â
Doing a step by step evaluation for each point mentioned above, you may be able to reach the decision to go for the required solution, which is cheap, but covers your requirements. Also always ensure the Guarantee factor from the vendor / supplier.
