Hi there,
There are numerous reports about problems with programs/application when upgrading to a newer version of Ubuntu, the primary cause for these problems would be compatibility issues . The only recommended action for the issue is to upgrade or update to newer versions since ubuntu 11 is a major developmental stage than ubuntu 10 or 9, if the problem still persist another recommended step for running a updated or upgraded program having problems running in Ubuntu 11 would be executing the particular program through the command line, as it is more safer this way, even though it will take quite a bit of typing to execute a program, but this is the safer way. If the problem still persist, contacting the developers will be much helpful

There’s nothing wrong about that. When you upgrade your operating system there is the possibility that some of your installed applications, including games, may not work on the new operating system. This can only happen if the application or game is old and doesn’t support newer operating systems. If this happens, uninstall the affected program and install the latest version.
If the affected program is a video game, try visiting its website and download a patch that may fix support for newer Ubuntu versions. If the game is an offline type, uninstall the game and find a similar game that supports newer Ubuntu versions. Normally, offline games don’t receive product updates on later operating systems. If you plan to upgrade your Ubuntu to a much newer version, make sure to check if your applications still support it.
So you will know which applications to uninstall and which to keep.
