Hello experts

I need to know one thing. What ports are required for opening a firewall between two forests for user communication? Please help.

Hello,

Please find below, the steps to be followed to open a port manually:

Click on Start and go to My Network Places.
Select View Network connections listed under Network Tasks.
Browse for the internet connection you are using, right click on it and select properties.
Go to the Advanced Tab and select settings.
Now, click on Add to open a new port.
Type a friendly name in the Description box. For e.g., enter File Sharing as Port 445.
Enter the IP address 127.0.0.1 in the text box labeled Name or IP address of the computer hosting this service on your network.
Enter the same port number as step 6 for both Internal and External ports as usual, this number is kept as same.
Click on TCP or UDP and click on OK.

Follow the above mentioned steps in sequence to open new ports manually.

Here is a list of ports which are used in case you are using Windows NT:

Client Port(s)	Server Port	Service
137/UDP	137/UDP	NetBIOS Name
138/UDP	138/UDP	NetBIOSNetlogon and Browsing
1024-65535/TCP	139/TCP	NetBIOS Session
1024-65535/TCP	42/TCP	WINS Replication
