I want to put Windows XP operating system on my Acer aspire 5310 laptop. It has a Celeron M processor & SATA hard drive, but the thing I am worried about is that Acer aspire 5310 haven’t any windows XP drivers? Because it’s original operating system is Windows Vista.

I think, at first you should complete your motherboard Booting  system. You will get this function by  pressing  F2 or Delete key when laptop will be restarted. Then you insert your  Windows XP CD disk and start setup. When you setup windows, you must format your laptops C drive. After completing  it Windows XP will be active.

Yes, you can replace Vista with XP.

You will need the following tools:

  1. A copy of or your original XP installation disk.
  2.  A boot disk which can be downloaded from BootDisk.
  3. A back-up of all your files that you would like to keep from the transfer.

During this process, you will be reformatting the hard drive. So you will loose all data that is stored in the hard drive.

Then follow the following steps:

  1. Insert your windows XP installation disk in the CD ROM drive once the computer starts up.
  2. The windows XP setup window will appear. choose R (to repair an existing installation).
  3. You will now type the following command: fixboot C: (please note the letter C is the drive which Vista is loaded onto. If Vista is loaded on another drive, use the corresponding letter).
  4. Enter the following command fixmbr C:
  5. Now type EXIT .
  6. Once EXIT is typed, close the XP setup. Now restart your laptop with the boot disk that was downloaded from http://www.bootdisk.com.
  7. As your boot disk loads, type the following command: format C: (please note this command reformats the hard drive and all files on this hard drive will be erased. Make sure to back-up all files before executing this command).
  8. Now that the reformatting of your hard drive is complete, Insert your Windows XP installation CD and restart your laptop.
  9. Your Windows XP installation CD should load up as normal. To finish the process, follow the prompts and install Windows XP as usual.

At the completion of this steps, Windows Vista will be successfully removed and Windows XP will be successfully installed on your laptop.
