When I upgraded my system hardware last week, I also tried to upgrade my Windows Media Player. Upgrade went pretty good, but the problem rose when I try to play audio file. I tried to re-install the media player, but the error message appeared again. Is there any problem with the installation? Any file is missing in the installation? Please help me to find the error. Thanks.

Windows Media Player is unable to play audio files
This problem is occurring because the Quartz.dll file is damaged or missing. To resolve this problem you need to rename the Quartz.dll file in the WindowsSystem folder and then download and install Window Media Player. To rename the Quartz.dll follow these steps:
1. Go to Start Menu>>point to “Find”>> click on “Files or Folders”.
2. In the “Named” box, type “quartz.dll” >> click on “Find Now” button.
3. Next Right click on the “Quartq.dll” >> Click on “Rename” option.
4. In the “Named” box, type “quartz.bak”>> then click on “OK”.
5. Now download and install the Windows Media Player installer file from here.
That’s it your problem will solve. If not use Registry Editor to remove the following registry key. Follow steps 1 through 5 one more and test again : HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTMedia Type
Windows Media Player is unable to play audio files
The file you want to play with Windows Media Player is a flash video or FLV (.flv). It is a video file and not an audio file. By default, Windows Media Player does not support this video format. This means no matter what you do it will not play your FLV file.
For you to play flash video with Windows Media Player, you need to install the flash video codec. The easiest way to do this is to install a codec pack which contains all the codec for various video formats. Try downloading K-Lite Codec Pack Mega. This mega variant of K-Lite codec pack is the largest of the four variants: basic, standard, full, and mega.
This codec pack provides everything that you need to play all your audio and video files. This codec pack also includes ACM/VFW codec which can be used by video encoding/editing programs. This codec pack includes Media Player Classic so you can immediately play your files. The latest version at the moment is K-Lite Codec Pack Mega 15.5.0.
For Windows XP Service Pack 3, the latest and last compatible version is K-Lite Codec Pack Mega 13.8.5. You can also use MPlayer for Windows or download the latest VLC media player to play FLV files.
