Yesterday one of my friend deleted some of the system files. He uses windows XP. I tried to restore it from system restore but I didn't find any restoration date. I don't want format the system. Is there any other ways to get rid of this problem?

If you delete the system file with normal delete then the files may be in the Recycle Bin .Navigate to recycle bin and restore them in the appropriate directory. You have said that there was no restore points available. It is because you have not created a restore point in the recent past in a period of 90 days. You can check the available restore points by navigating to hidden and protected folder called System Volume Information. You must first log as an administrator and be extremely cautious when handling the system volume folder because any misconduct will damage the system.
Open Windows explorer and go to Tools> Folder options>and click View tab. Select “Show Hidden Files And Folders” and uncheck “Hide Protected Operating System Files” check box. Click ok and exit.
Now Access the root directory (C: partition) and right click System Volume Information folder >select Properties>Security tab. Click add button and ensure your User name is listed in the dialog box and click OK. not add your User account by Add >Find Now. After that you are able to access the System volume information folder. Locate any restore points available and if there exists any double click it. If this was no good still there is one solution that is a system repair. Insert your Win XP CD to the CD-Rom and select Repair in the Win XP setup and try to restore the missing system files.

You can also do a system repair for the operating system as long as you have the same CD it will detect that you are currently using a windows XP operating system. If your know how to install lets go to the part where you will press F8 to accept the agreement. Then it will prompt you to the next window and will tell you that you have XP in you hard drive. Press ENTER in this window instead of ESC.
It will now delete your old window files and copy new ones without formatting the system. Now if you still have the problem regarding the file. It might be virus related so after installation make sure to scan all of your drives to check if any virus exists. Once you have done this, delete it. I suggest using Microsoft Security Essentials. It is free and has the feature of the windows defender as long as your computer operating system is a genuine Microsoft product.
