What is Bus speed and function on a computer?

• In our body, our nerves carry signals to the brain and from the brain, to the whole body. Similarly, a bus connects all internal components of the computer, to the CPU (Central Processing Unit) and main memory.
• It is a collection of wires, which carry data. There are three types of bus's. Two of them are Data BUS and Address BUS.
• Data BUS carries data and Address BUS tells the address, where the data has to be transferred.
• The speed of the BUS is measured in MHz (Megahertz) and depends upon the data, that is simultaneously carried by the BUS. The fastest BUS speed means that, at a time, more data can be carried by the bus and it will definitely increase the performance of the computer.
• RAM (Random Access Memory) is volatile type of memory. It temporarily stores data. All the data is lost, when the power is lost. The speed or effectiveness of the RAM can be measured by its access time. Access time is the amount of time that is taken by RAM in reading and writing the data after receiving the request from processor.
• Faster bus speed and RAM speed boost up the speed of the system.

What is Bus speed and function on a computer?

You can take it as a window in a computer through a computer see the memory and performs different task. As in a window some we can look on the other side but it depends how narrow or big the window is same is the case with BUS. It is used to transfer data from one source to other.

Consider the traffic on your roads it the concept just like that BUS need some digits traffic to travel through once destination to another destination. So as the road is wider the more traffic will flow across the road and as the road is narrow then less traffic will pass through it. There may be a 32 bit bus or a 64 bit bus it depends on the manufacture and the customer needs.
