A router is a hardware device and one of the most common piece of networking equipment. It basically transmits and deliver information between two networks. There are two types of routers. The broadband router and the wireless router.Â

Picture above (right) is the wireless router. It creates a wireless signal in the place where it is installed. Any computer within range of the wireless router can connect and transfer information to the router and can use the internet for free. But you can secure your wireless router with a password so it is not used by any computer with no permission.Â

Broadband router is another type of router. They serve the purpose of connecting two different computers to be able to connect to the internet. Broadband routers has a lot of purposes and uses such as creating phone connection etc.

The purpose of home router
Hello Nevil,
You are asking of what is the purpose of a router. Well, router is a small device that joins several networks together or it links networks together. It has the ability to filter traffics, either incoming or outgoing which is based on the IP address of the sender and receiver. It needs to be configured before it can connect to a certain network.
The bottomline here is that a router lets us connect from the internet and it is very useful to us like surfing on the net, making research, social networking and etc.
I hope I have answered your question.
Thank you.
