Hi,
I am having problem with one of my MS document file. I have saved it earlier. Few days ago I have renamed it and afterwards it is showing unknown file format. If I try to open it by open with>MS word, it works. But facing problem with opening by double click. Can anyone help me?

It's simple. It is showing unknown file format because of extension text. Each file in windows XP contain a unique extension file name. Such as .doc for MS word file. The thing you should do now is just rename the file again adding (.doc) at last of the file name if is MS word version up to 2003.
For above version of 2003 you will need to add (.docx) after the real file name. To not face such problem further you should make a change of your folder option. Just follow the direction. Go to My computer>Click Tools>Folder Option>Choose View tab>Select the option [Hide extension for known file type]. Hope it will be solved. Thanks.

May be you have changed the extension of the file and this is creating problem opening it. You can try by renaming the file with .doc extension. However, if you do not want to face this problem in future you can bring change in Tool option. Hope this will give you right solution as you are looking for.

You are welcome. Please remember to not change folder option for other unknown or not experienced files. If it is changed without having knowledge of the files extension, the file could be damaged forever. Thank you to.

You are welcome. Always remember not to change file extension while changing the file name. This can pose damage otherwise and you can loss you valuable file afterward. Best of luck.

Hello Dear,
Thanks for sharing your problem with us.
Dear you have removed the extension of your file. It is only the cause of your problem.
Kindly do these things. Open windows explorer and then click on "Tools" a drop down list will be opened, here you have to choose last option "Folder Options" when you click on this a dialog box will open.
See this picture.
Click on "view" then remove tick from the check box highlighted in picture. Then apply and Ok.
Now simply go to your file and rename it. If you want to rename it as "Sayed" so you have to write "Sayed.doc" you have to write its extension. After this your problem will resolve 100%.
Thanks
