Hi! I was using my computer a while ago and was installing Call of Duty. While the system was copying the files, I left it for a while and when I came back, the CPU is already turned off. When I tried to turn it back on, it doesn’t respond. The only thing I get is the monitor LED light blinking. Please help! I have no idea what happened. Here are the specs of my PC:

– try using a different power cord. There is a possibility that your power cord is already busted.
– Make sure that the power button on the CPU case is connected to the motherboard.
– It is possible that the Power Supply Unit you are using is no longer working. I don’t think that a 500W PSU will last a computer with the same specs that you have. Try using a different PSU and see if it will resolve the issue.
– Make sure that you have enough cooling fans installed on your computer to make sure that the speed of your system is well compensated.

Hello Laura. You were right about the PSU. I tried using a different PSU and I was able to turn on the computer. However, it is no longer loading Windows 7. It just stays on the power-on-self-test message when starting the computer. Also, what PSU is best suitable for my computer specification? Thank you.

For your computer, it is best that you use 800w PSU. It is better to go beyond the required power supply than to fall behind it. Now, regarding your new issue, it is possible that when your PSU broke down, electrical surges damaged some components of your PC. The worst case scenario is that your motherboard or processor got scorched. But before we jump in to conclusion, try performing the steps below. Try powering on the computer after each step to help isolate the cause of the problem:

Remove and reinstall the video card,

Remove and reinstall RAM

Remove and reinstall the processor

Disconnect and reconnect all wires connecting the motherboard and other devices. If possible, try using a different wire to reconnect the device because it is possible that wires are already burnt. Turn on computer and see if issue will be resolved.

If you have a spare hard drive, try using it on your computer and see if it will load the OS, or use your HDD to a different computer and see if it will load.

Thank you for all the suggestion, I have found the culprit thanks to you. It appears that the hard drive is causing the issue. I tried replacing it with a spare HDD from our other computer and it loaded Windows. That PSU really caused me a lot of problems. Is there a way to recover files on a busted hard disk drive?

I’m glad you were able to troubleshoot the issue. I don’t have experience with recovering data from a broken HDD, but you can try using it as an external hard drive and see if you will still be able to read and copy files from it. By an HDD enclosure and connect your HDD through the USB port. If that doesn’t work, try looking for an HDD data recovery specialist at your area and bring them your HDD, they’ll know what to do.
