Understanding Replication Between Sites In Detail.

Replication between sites is found in Windows Server 2008 and higher versions. They are handled by Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS) as there is a limit of bandwidth between sites. Knowledge Consistency Checker (KCC) builds replication topology with the help of least-cost tree design. It can be optimized for the efficient bandwidth. Every 3 hours (180 minutes), intersite replication occurs across the site link by default.
