When you perform a hypothesis test, two forms of errors can appear: which include type I and type II. The occurrence of these errors is related inversely.
Type I error
If the null hypothesis is right and you reject it, then you make a type I error. The possibility of making a type I error is α, which is equal to the level of significance you decide for your hypothesis test. An α of 0.05 shows that you can accept a 5% possibility that you are wrong whenever you reject the null hypothesis.
