If you just purchased the phone then probably chances are there that your battery is damaged. Visit your nearby service center if possible. Although you can try for the trouble shooting ideas like,

1. Let your phone first get discharged completely and then try to charge it.

2. When you start your phone, it will display the red battery logo kind of thing.

3. Turn on the airplane mode when it starts.

4. Don’t plug-off the charger until it gets charged till 100%.

5. Replace the battery if it stills not get charged.

If your phone doesn’t charge, make sure the outlet where you plug the charger has power. If your phone still doesn’t charge, there is probably a problem with the charger. To check it further, connect your phone to your computer using the USB cable. Check if your phone charges. If it doesn’t, transfer the USB cable to another port and try again.

Normally, when you connect your Smartphone to your computer using the USB cable, your device’s battery gets recharged. But if you don’t see any activity even on the battery meter, you can conclude that the problem is with the phone itself. In this case, you should bring it to a Microsoft service center for proper servicing.
