Hey, I have a sample data with me, but how do I calculate the weighted standard deviation? What is its formula?

Calculating Weighted Standard Deviation By Formula

Hey there, weighted Standard deviation’s formula is

Where,

N = Number of observations,

M = Number of non-zero weights,

wi = weights

xi = observations, and

x ̅*= weighted mean

The formula for weighted mean, x ̅* is:

Use appropriate weights as per your question or data sample.

Alternatively, you can directly calculate this value using excel. Calculate weighted mean first, then (xi – x ̅*)2 in the separate column. That way, you’ll calculate it easily.
