I have a homework in our computer subject which wants us to enumerate different possible errors that users may receive when using the computer and it so happens, few days ago while playing an online game on my computer, I accidentally receive error 155 and mentions something about GameGuard.

The game managed to run and I was able to still play it but I keep getting the error in random. I just ignore the error whenever I see it since the game is playable but is kind of annoying in the long run. Any information about the error is highly appreciated since I don’t know what causes it.

Need Help With “Error 155” In GameGuard

“Error 155” in GameGuard may indicate two possible causes or problems: problem with the hard drive or possible virus infection. You usually receive a GameGuard-related error when playing online games because it is used by most online games to protect and prevent users from using cheats and hacks. They do this to be fair with all other players.

Now, if you receive this error when playing your online game, first thing to do is to perform a virus scan. Update your antivirus then do a full system scan. You can also download Sophos Virus Removal Tool to scan your computer. It is not an antivirus but a tool designed to remove hard-to-detect viruses.

Once installed, start Sophos then wait for the virus signature database to get updated. Once updating is complete, click to start scanning your computer. The tool scans everything on your computer including devices connected via USB port. When a virus is found at the end of the scan, remove it then repeat the scan over and over until it no longer detects a virus.

On the other hand, if your computer turned out clean, try checking your system for errors using the System File Checker utility. Press the Windows key + R to bring up the “Run” dialog then type without quotes “sfc /scannow” then hit Enter. Insert your Windows setup CD or DVD when you are prompted then continue. This may take some time to finish.

Wait until it is complete. When it is finished, restart the computer.
