There are numerous possibilities that the package you just burned to the disc and installed is a slightly older version and the software packages are not up to date. This can cause some serious hindrance to the smooth running of day to day tasks. In the case, if the image file you installed is a light version of the original version, it might not even have some of the important software packages. Hence to ensure that all things are there and they are up to date, we update everything from the terminal.
List the updates that are required. By listing, you can upgrade individual packages at a time, in case you have connectivity issues.
You can also upgrade everything required directly from the terminal itself.
