Hi,

Suddenly on my desktop this error appeared without a reason and I don’t know what Dumpcap means or what program is so I can uninstall it. Can anyone help me please to fix this error ? What program is Dumpcap ?

If you received the error ”dumpcap has stopped working” and you don’t have an idea as to where it came from or what application causes it, this error is caused by the application Wireshark. The issue here is not really with the program but with the operating system because you are using Microsoft Windows 8.

The reason why the application throws this error is because it is not compatible with Microsoft Windows 8. Maybe it works at times but not always. To fix the problem, you should run Wireshark in Windows 7 compatibility mode. Right-click Wireshark then select Properties. Select Compatibility tab then check “Run this program in compatibility mode for” and then select Windows 7 from the dropdown list. See image.

Click OK and start Wireshark again. It should fix the problem. If you are using an old version, download and install the latest stable release, Wireshark 1.12.1. It supports Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8 as well as Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2008 R2, and Windows Server 2012. Microsoft Windows XP is not supported.
