Laptop Screen goes dark black

Hi,

I have a laptop Toshiba L655-S5096. I have tried to install Redhat Linux 6 on it. But after installation, when Linux goes to start, it shows all dark screens and nothing happen.

How can I get rid of this problem?

Please, give me some solution for this.

Greetings Randy,

When I look about this issue in Toshiba support forum and other websites, I was able to see, quite a few people discussing about the same issue. What Toshiba recommends for this issue is updating the BIOS setup with the latest version available to date. 

But generally speaking, this issue could be because of any excessive charge built up inside the power components of the laptop. As monitor is the component that consumes considerably more power than other components, they will get the hit. So a small work around for this issue is cold-boot. 

Unplug the power, take the battery out and hold down the power button for around 60seconds. This will release any excess charge built up in the machine. Put the power back in and turn on. This has proved to fix the issue on most of the times considering the excess charge issue. If both the above option fails, you may require a replacement of the components in your laptop.

Your screen does not display anything because Red Hat Linux 6 does not have the appropriate drivers for your laptop's chipset and graphics.  Red Hat Linux 6 (and its equivalent CentOS) was created with stability and rock-solid 24/7 performance as the primary consideration.  This means that all drivers that are included in every Red Hat release are only for those hardware that have been thoroughly tested to be stable for production or enterprise use.

Your laptop is very new and this is the reason why Red Hat 6 does not have the necessary drivers for your hardware to operate properly.  If you want a Linux distro that comes close to Red Hat 6, I suggest you go for Fedora (https://getfedora.org/).  Fedora has all the drivers necessary to get your laptop up and running Linux.  If you really want to use Red Hat then you will probably have to wait for a couple more releases before your hardware will be supported.

So to sum it up, the solution to your problem is to use Fedora instead of Red Hat.
