Here are some steps you can try to make the DVD ROM appear again.

Check if your DVD ROM appears correctly in BIOS.

If it’s properly connected, you should see the Brand and type of the DVD ROM you have. If you can’t see it in BIOS, you may need to open your desktop tower and have the power cable and data cable of your DVD ROM reseated. Make sure to release the remaining electricity by holding down the power button for 10 seconds while the power cord is unplugged. Turn on your computer after reseating these cables and check if it’s now detected in BIOS. If it still doesn’t appear, you may try known good power cable and data cable. If the DVD ROM will still not show in BIOS, your DVD ROM should be replaced. But if you can see it in BIOS try deleting Upper and Lower Filters in the Registry Editor.

Delete Upper and Lower Filters in the Registry.

First, you need to access the Registry Editor Window.

Click the Start button on the desktop > click Run > type “regedit” then click on OK.

Registry Editor will appear.

Navigate to the correct folder by expanding these folders:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SYSTEM > CurrentControlSet > Control > Class

Then Click on {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}under the Class Folder.(Do not expand this folder)

In the right pane, you will see Lower Filters or Upper Filters. Sometimes you will see both Upper and Lower Filters. Right click on the Upper Filters then click on the option delete. Do the same if you see Lower Filters on the right pane. Restart your Computer. Check the Device Manager and you will see the DVD ROM again.

This is a common issue and is mostly resolved by deleting Upper and Lower Filter. But if this doesn’t fix your computer’s problem, take note of several things like any error message that appears. This error message might be related the DVD ROM not appearing in the device manager.

If you can see a yellow triangle on the device manager with an exclamation mark inside it after deleting Upper and Lower Filters, there is a driver issue. Since System Restore is not available to undo any changes on your computer, the last thing you can do is perform an Operating System Reinstall. In this case, make sure to back up all your files before doing an Operating System Reinstall since this will erase all your data on the computer.
