Before my "Weather" Desktop Gadget worked fine and now it doesn’t. I cannot figure out what happened. I'm getting an error message now that never occurred in the past. When I click my city and state, it takes me to the msn weather website which displayed the details for my city's weather. Now I get the following message:
"This file does not have a program associated with it to perform this action. Please install a program or, if one is already installed, create an association in the Default Programs control panel." And the same error happens when I select the gadgets Options after clicking on the highlighted question.
"How do Windows find my location automatically?"
Does anyone know what's causing this and how I can fix it?
Thanks.
Weather Desktop gadgets failed to work
Hi. Please follow the steps below in order to fix this problem.
1. Go to the Sidebar icon in the system tray , right-click and choose Exit. You will be prompted with a message asking for your confirmation to exit, please click Yes.
2. Afterwards, go to Task Manager to ensure that there is no sidebar.exe currently running. If any, you need to click End Process to each of them.
3. Next step, you are required to paste this %localappdata%microsoftWindows Sidebar in a windows explorer’s location bar. When a Sidebar gadgets folder is open, you should see a file named Settings.ini where it holds your ongoing sidebar configuration.
4. Finally, go back to start menu and reopen the Sidebar. You will notice the new Settings.ini is setup instantly.
Here are several extra steps as backup
1. Click start and type in search box ‘Command prompt’ . Click it and run as administrator.
2. Next , type this command ‘regsvr32 msxml3.dll and press ENTER.
3. Run these commands ‘regsvr32 scrrun.dll’ and ‘regsvr32 jscript.dll’ the same way you did in step 3 above. For every command operated, you are supposed to see a message DllRegisterServer in succeeded
4. Lastly, log off and then login back to your user credential .Please check whether the Gadget is displaying properly or not.
