My Dell laptop stopped booting and Blue Screen occurs when I try to boot it, so I took out the hard drive and mounted it in an external enclosure to transfer the files on my Windows XP Desktop PC. After I connected the said hard drive and tried opening it gives me the following error:
How can I recover my data on the hard drive? Thank you in advance for your advice.

Error performing inpage operation when opening a hard drive in Explorer
Hello there,
-
Sometimes I encountered that kind of problem what you have now.
-
You know already what's the problem it's you HDD. If you doubt, try to change the enclosure, if nothing happen, try to reformat your HDD because maybe your HDD is unallocated so you can't see it on the on my computer.
Or maybe you should try this:
-
Right click on the USB drive and select properties If not go to start; Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
-
Double-click Folder Options. On the View tab, under advanced settings, uncheck.
-
Use simple file sharing If so then select security; edit; add; then put in your login name and select check;then give that account full control.
Error performing inpage operation when opening a hard drive in Explorer
The inpage operation error usually means that there is some kind of physical problems on the disk (hard drive). If you are on the network than this error can also be caused by network connectivity. Common cause can be when files larger than the largest packet size are copied over the network.
Â
-
Try to repair your hard drive by using check disk utility.
-
In the RUN option, enter cmd and go to command prompt. Now type chkdsk e: /r
Â
-
Replace e: with your external hard drive letter.
-
If you are on the network, take your system away from the network by unplugging the network wire, restart your PC and login from your local system administrator to see if the problem resolved.
-
You can also try Knoppix, An open source software that can be used to copy files from hard disks with inaccessible OS. http://knoppix.net/
-
Once you get complete backup of your data, reformat your HDD and installed the new windows.

Error performing inpage operation when opening a hard drive in Explorer
Just click RUN and cmd then you'll be in command window – then type chkdsk [drive:] /F (such as – chkdsk e: /F) which should perform a repair…this worked for me, same error.
