I just bought an iPad and I tried to connect it to my router to get online with no luck. So I went to my friend who has the same router and got my iPad connected to the Internet. He told me to change or lower down the security level of my network.
I don't have any idea what he was talking about. My router is E1000 from Cisco and I don't have time to call their tech support.
Â
Can someone tell me how to do this please?

E1000 from Cisco how to lower security
Â

There are following questions that you need to answer.
Â
1. What is the security level support by your IPAD? Is it WEP, WPA, WPA2?
Â
2. How did you set-up your router? Did you use the Cisco Connect Software contained in the set-up CD or did you set it up manually?
Â
If Router Is Set-Up with Cisco Connect Software
Â
Note: CCS doesn’t support WEP. If you IPAD is not capable of WPA Personal security level then you need to reconfigure your router manually and that means you will no longer use CCS. Beware of reconfiguration because it could disconnect all devices from the router. It could take time for the devices to get connected to the router.
Â
If you set-up your E1000 with CCS, the you need to use the software to lower down the security level of your router. The least security level supported by CCS is WPA. If your IPAD doesn’t support WPA or WPA2 then there is no way for you to lower down the security level of E1000 using CCS because it doesn’t support WEP.
Â
If your IPAD supports WPA then launch CCS. Click Router Settings, Advanced Settings, then enter the router username and password to display the set-up page. Click Wireless, then Wireless Security. Under Security Mode, choose WPA Personal.
Â
If Router Is Set-Up Manually
Â
Access the set-up page of your router using a computer that is connected to it. The default IP of router is 192.168.1.1. Enter username and password. Click Router Settings, Advanced Settings, then enter the router username and password to display the set-up page. Click Wireless, then Wireless Security. Under Security Mode, choose WPA Personal or WEP.
