A sophisticated system called Google’s algorithms is used to quickly return the most relevant results for a query by retrieving data from its search index. On its search engine results pages, the search engine ranks websites according to relevance using a variety of algorithms and ranking factors (SERPs). Google only made a small number of algorithm updates in its early years. Google now makes tens of thousands of changes each year. The majority of these updates are so minute as to be ignored. The Google Search algorithms are updated thousands of times annually to guarantee that the most relevant, trustworthy results are displayed prominently. The number of irrelevant results that appear on a search results page has decreased by over 40% over the past five years, thanks to Google’s ongoing dedication to the user experience and the quality of results. The majority of these updates are unnoticed, but occasionally one happens that upsets the SEO apple cart. In this article, we’ll look back at the changes that affected SEO over the past year and discuss how they might affect your plans.

Help Content Updates Google Search is constantly working to provide users with more relevant results. To accomplish this, we’re introducing what we’re calling the “helpful content update,” which is a component of a larger initiative to make sure users see more helpful, original content created by people, for people, in search results. If there is other content from the web that is better to display, any content—not just unhelpful content—on sites determined to have relatively high amounts of unhelpful content overall is less likely to perform well in Search. The ranking of your other content may therefore benefit from removing unhelpful content.

New robots tag: index embedded. To give you more control over when your content is indexed, we are introducing a new robot tag today called index-embedded. With the indexifembedded title, you can tell Google that even if the content page has the noindex tag, you still want your content to be indexed when it is embedded via iframes and similar HTML tags on other pages. The index embedded title addresses a common problem that mainly affects media publishers. While they may want their content to be indexed when embedded on other pages, they may not want their media pages to be indexed independently. They currently use a noindex tag on such pages because they don’t want the media pages to be indexed. The noindex tag, however, also stops the content from being embedded on other pages while being indexed.
