Set up intrusion detectors for network
As a security measure my network admin told me to set up some intrusion detectors.
I have no idea.
What do they do?

Intrusion detectors are no different to antivirus or internet security applications. An antivirus is also capable of detecting intrusions but it depends on the program you are using. There are antivirus programs that are only limited to detecting viruses and other rootkits in the system and may not fully protect the security of your machine against outside intrusions.
There are also other antivirus programs that are integrated with a security protocol that will guard your system from outside attacks. An example of this program is the Norton Internet Security. NIS or Norton Internet Security is a combination of an antivirus and a complex smart firewall which can already replace your Windows Firewall.
This is the internet security program I am using and I’ve already tested its effectiveness against surprise outside attacks. An outside attack or intrusion usually happens when visiting an unknown website. The attack is usually in the form of traffic that the website sends to your computer.
The traffic sent can overload specific port and if this happens the site will take advantage of your computer’s vulnerability and might install anything on your computer like bots maybe or spyware perhaps. Normally, websites doesn’t transmit traffic to users visiting the site.
