Can Visual Basic run from a USB drive?

Hello,

My question is if there is any way I could install Visual Basic 2010 in a USB drive and then use it in all of my computers without having to install it again.

So I ask if Visual Basic can run from the USB without installation.

Hi Elizabeth,

Hope the following steps will guide you in fixing of this issue.

If you are about to work with Visual Basic 2010 by accessing from the USB Drive, You have to copy whole dump created in local drive or else where you have installed it to your USB drive and then run it but it may not be worked properly as of installed software,
 
As some features may not be allowed if it is accessed with out installation via USB and even sometimes if the code is correct we cannot debug it as it shows some errors due to missing of some files in dump which can be accessed from USB drive.
 
Hence its much better to work with an installed Visual Studio Software rather than using without installation accessing from external devices.

This how-to-will teach you how to run software stored on a USB flash drive if you use either Microsoft Windows or Mac OS X 10.4 or higher.

USB flash drive

Steps:

1. If you run Microsoft Windows, go to any of:

Prayaya virtualization OS.

The Portable Freeware Collection.

Lupo Pensuite

LiberKey

WinPenPack

AccessApps

PortableApps.com

2. Go to OS X Portable Applications-FreeSMUG if you use Mac OS X 10.4 or higher.

3. If you have a U3-compatible drive and use Microsoft Windows, you can just click on the U3 logo in the system tray (Where the system clock is), and a menu should pop up. Click on Add Programs in the menu.

4. For U3-compatible drives, it should automatically install the software. However, for other drives you will have to install it yourself. For Mac users that use FreeSMUG, open the dmg file and drag and drop the folder onto your USB flash drive. For windows users, either uncompressed the software downloaded to you USB drive if it’s a “zip” file, or run the installer and tell it where your USB flash drive is if it’s a “exe”.

5. Run the program from your USB flash drive by running it from the menu in U3, or just find the folder on your USB flash drive and run the program directly.

6. Alternatively, you can install a program onto your flash drive in the same way that you would install it on your computer. Simply click on the installer’s executable and chose your hard drive as the location to install to you do not need a special flash drive for this.

Tips:

  • It’s possible to run the application on a external hard drive or on an internal hard drive if you download the applications if you don’t use U3.
  • Another way to run applications directly on USB flash drive is to format your removable disk (USB Flash Drive) into NTFS After formatting, run the installer of your favorite application. Change the installation path – mostly, default path is C:- change it to the Drive Letter path of your NTFS Flash Drive. Enjoy. (you can now run your apps on any PCs using your Flash Drive).
