I have this problem here and I would like to know the real reason why is it that some online games were so lagged in Windows XP. I have a very good internet connection so why is it so lag. Please help me on this problem of mine.
Why some online games in Windows XP was so lagged?
What particular game is that? I am actually playing this game called DC Universe Online and it is pretty slow sometimes. There are different points to consider about a slow online game:
-
Slow internet connection – Sure your web browsing is fast, but an online game needs an automatic constant giving and receiving of data.
-
Slow computer – Your internet speed may be fast, but your computer is not keeping up. Before you start your game, close any unwanted programs like music players, internet browsers and other programs. Whenever I play an online game I close my iTunes, my background switcher program and even my antivirus (risky and not recommended though)
-
Update your copy of Windows XP – Maybe a windows update is necessary. I updated mine just a few weeks ago on my laptop and I felt the speed.
-
Scan your computer – Use the latest version of your favorite antivirus to scan your computer. The most popular and recommended for Windows XP is the Microsoft Security Essentials, and it is pretty powerful. It is free on their official website. But there are other alternatives too, like Avira Antivir, another free antivirus.
-
Upgrade to Windows 7 – The problem with Windows XP besides it’s too old is that its security is not that great than Windows 7. Sure the first months of Windows 7 are rocky, but I am using it right now and I am not experiencing any issues. Only do this though, if you are sure that the solutions above are not working to give you a lag-free online gaming experience.
Let me know if this helps!

Why some online games in Windows XP was so lagged?
There are a lot of factors affecting the speed of online games in Windows XP. One is your hardware meaning your computer has low specs like for example low memory or a low type of video card. Easy way to solve this is add up more RAM and change your video card to one that is used in gaming. In this way you increase your computers performance in all aspects.Â
Â
In another aspect if you don't have the funds for this kind of upgrade, you can still optimize what you have by tweaking some things. For Windows XP, there are a lot of things you can do.Â
Â
1. Delete Temporary Files which makes your computer slow and would give way to applications such as games run faster. To do this Click on Start then Run then type %Temp% on the dialog box. It will then prompt you to the Temporary Files Folder all you have to do then is select all and delete.
Â
2. Run Disk Defragmentation.
Â
3. Run ScanDisk.
Â
4. Clean your Startup. To do this click on Start go to Run then type in "msconfig" then go to Startup tab and uncheck all those unnecessary applications to free some memory.
Â
5. Launch the game. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del once launched. Click on "Task Manager". Select the game application right-click and select "go to processes". Then right+click on the selected line and select "set priority". There would be 6 choices then select "Realtime" if you have a fast PC or select "High" if you think your PC is just normal.
