Multimedia player like Real player not working in Linux (Ubuntu)

I am a newbie to Linux and trying to play media player i.e. real player but it gets hanged or sometimes show message “can’t open audio device/dev/dsp: Resource unavailable” or no sound. I don’t know how to fix this problem. Is there any miss-configuration or anything else? Help to solve this issue.

It would be better if you post the screen shot but if the music player is not working that much well you can first update the drive by using "sudo apt-get update" if it's still haven't fixed than install a new music player by using sudo apt-get install package name
