Floppy drive light does not go off

Whenever I power on my computer my floppy drive’s light is on even if there is no floppy disk inside it. I already checked the cable that connects the floppy drive to the motherboard. I already clean it using a floppy drive disk cleaning kit but the light still stays on. I really have no idea what’s causing this. Does anybody know how to fix this?

Hi,

 There are many reasons for floppy drive’s light on. I do not know what happened there and what the exact solution is. But I will give you some nearest possible reason and there solution. According to your description you already tried many primary options yourself. So I am skipping those and giving something new ideas.

1. The green light of FDD means data cable is not seated correctly. You need to set cable’s motherboard end on motherboard and FDD end on FDD.

2. Other reason is may be one of cable’s connector pin is broken or one cable is damaged. Try with new or different FDD cable.

3. Your FDD controller failed to work properly. Install new XP to install FDD controller again.

Hi there Muhammad.

When you said you "checked the cable" did you check if you had it connected in the proper orientation? If the LED of a floppy disk drive is always on, it is a dead giveaway that you connected the cable in reverse. To fix it, simply reverse the cable of your floppy disk drive. Connecting it in reverse will not damage the floppy drive nor the motherboard. The only effect of a reversed cable connection is that the drive will not work (of course) and the LED light will remain lit from the time you power up your computer.

If reversing the cable does not work then it is most likely a busted floppy disk drive. Your only option then is to have it replaced.
