The importance of NAT in the present day scenario

Hi Margarete,

 

Static NAT helps to map an unregistered IP address with a registered IP address involving a one to one relationship. This is essential when an outside network needs to access the device. 

 

Dynamic NAT helps to map an unregistered IP address to a registered one from a group of such addresses. 

 

Overloading is another variation of dynamic NAT that helps in mapping multiple unregistered IP locations to a single registered IP  by accessing different ports. This is also referred to as Port Address Translation (PAT).

 

IP Masquerading: IP Masquerade is basically a networking function in Linux that is similar to the one-to-many NAT (Network Address Translation) servers in commercial firewalls and network routers. The IP Masquerade feature allows other "internal" computers connected to this main host to also reach the Internet as well.
