Desktop hard disk making annoying noise

My hard disk is making some annoying noises, approximately 30 noise occurrences in one minute. The problem started when a friend came with an external hard disk, 250 GB. He wanted to copy some documents from my computer. I plugged in the drive of my computer in one of the USB ports and transferred the data.

As soon as I removed his hard disk from my PC, my hard disk started to make some annoying noises. I carried out a full system scan and found an MSBB Spyware, which I removed using Ad-Ware. This never solved the problem. The noises were still there. Later on, I noticed that whenever I pressed ctrl+ shift + delete keys to start up the task manager, the noises would go away. But the noise will return again when I press the cancel key to exit the task manager.

During an Antivirus scan there was a message saying “systray, zonealaram, avg?” displayed by the windows explorer dialog box. My questions are:

1. Could the virus be the reason why the hard disk is producing the noises?

2. Is there any software to fix this?

3. What can I do to avoid a similar occurrence?

I'll be very thankful for any help. Have a great day everyone!

Dear Daniel Kaiser,

I suggest you to back up your data immediately. The hard disk sounds are not always a good sign. A hard drive crash might take place. This problem might be some hardware or software based . But initially, it is due to a virus.

To get rid of this, you can delete the whole partition, reformat the whole hard disk . Then, you will get the new windows and that should eradicate your problem.

Hi,

I have never heard about a virus that can make an annoying noise in the hard drive, or destroys a hard drive physically. All I know is that a virus can only destroy software, but it can be fixed in many different ways.

In that case, maybe it is just only a coincidence, about attaching your friend's hard drive in to your PC and the annoying noise starts there. Surely, the hard drive is contaminated with a virus, that’s why your Antivirus detected it.

There might have been a possibility that your hard drive is going to crash anytime soon, that’s why backing up your important data is a must.

I also recommend that you reformat your hard disk and reinstall your OS to prevent a bigger problem.
