Help with MSI (Microsoft Installer) error 1618: Another installation is already in progress.

ERROR_INSTALL_ALREADY_RUNNING 1618 Another installation is already in progress. Complete that installation before proceeding with this install. For information about the mutex, see https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/win32/msi/-msiexecute-mutex

Complete that installation before proceeding with this install. I don’t see anything being installed? Could it be that there is in the background?

How do I fix this?

Hi king,

This error occurs when there is already a program which is using the windows installer and has taken the mutex. It is very much possible that an installation is running in the background. You can see by pressing CTRL + ALT + DEL on your keyboard to open task manager. Now you should be able to look and remove the various versions of Windows Installer that might be operating. Always look out for any unusual programs with names like “setup.msi” or “setup.exe”.
