On page or Off Page optimization:which one is better?

Search Engine Optimisation, I understand can be divided into two methods, on page optimization and off page optimization. What is meant by each of these two methods? What is the difference between these two? Which of these two, should I consider for SEO purpose? Are there any factors based on which I need to select one of these?

On page or Off Page optimization:which one is better?

On-page and Off-page SEO both are part of a single coin. On-page is the base of website and off-page work as a fuel for an engine that helps to run it. So you need to perform both. On-page is a technique to optimize your website internally by adding meta tags, titles, keywords, descriptions, XML Sitemaps, robots.txt, inserting proper heading tags, Anchor text and Setting up of Google webmaster and Bing, yahoo webmaster. These all helps a website to boost in Google ranking.

Off-page is the technique that is used to optimize a website externally by link building. There are so many methods of link building we use to rank a website.

So we can say that On-page and Off-page SEO both are important to rank better on search engine.
