Following the tradition of the new Macbook Air, the new Macbook Pro with Retina display also sports a very sleek profile and eschews legacy parts like an optical drive, firewire and ethernet port. How hostile is the new design towards expansion and repairability, both hallmarks of traditional professional machines?

Yes, indeed, MacBook Pro with Retina Display is the least repairable laptop today. It was made as if only the producers can repair it. First, it make use of pentalobe screws like the in iPhone and these requires a special screw driver which is quite costly. Second, its RAM is not upgradable since it is fused to its Logic Board. Third, the screen is not protected y a glass so, if ever you break it, you need to completely replace it. So basically, this MacBook Pro is not for people who habitually injure damage to their phone or to those people who loves upgrading and modify their gadgets every now and then.
