Scheduling a Hard disk scan in windows to check for errors

I have a windows operating system that has lost many of my files, How can I schedule the operating system to do a file scan to ensure that the missing files are restored? How effective is the file restoration from the scan? Can I be guaranteed of getting all my missing files?

Hello, Ashley!

Here are the correct steps for such wish:

1) Click "Start"

2) Click "Computer"

3) Right-Click on Local Disk (C:) and a drop down menu will appear.

4) Select "Properties" from the drop down menu.

5) Select the "Tools" tab.

6) Under error-checking, click on the "Check now' button.

7) Upon clicking "Check now", an option box will appear. Place check marks beside "Automatically fix file system errors" and "Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors".

8) Click "Start"

9) Most likely, you will get a "Windows can't check the disk while it's in use" message. Click "Schedule disk check".

10) Re-start your computer for disk checking to take effect.
