Use of DIMM memmory sticks along with SIMM

I have a DIMM memory slot and wanted to upgrade, but I found the SIMM sticks readily available in the market. The problem is that Im not aware of any compatibility issues with the two. Are they compatible each each other? What is the best pait match, IGB and IGB or IGB and 2gb? Do the difference in size allocation bring about compatibility problem?

In dual channeling, the internal structure, speed, rating & capacity of the memory slots and sticks should be matching with each other. But there is no necessity to have identical pairs always, nevertheless relatively less compatibility problems would arise in dual channeling where identical pairs are involved in the process.
